Arc’teryx launched its original line of footwear in 2015 — it was a natural progression considering they had been owned by Salomon since the early 2000’s. But now the company has brought all design and development of their line of approach and trail running footwear in-house. Designed in conjunction with Arc’teryx sponsored athletes, these new Arc’teryx designs are billed as offering an ideal mix of support, traction, and comfort, made for whatever challenges you encounter. Learn more about the intensive design process in the video below.

The Vertex Alpine ($200) is an approach shoe designed for speed and flexibility. It blends lightweight agility, durability, and grip for navigating steep, technical paths. This shoe provides waterproof support and protection. It features a Vibram® XS Flash 2 outsole for great edging, on-trail performance, and grip in both wet and dry conditions. For added safety, it has a TPU shank and toe cap, and a knit collar to keep out debris. The Vertex Alpine GTX ($250) includes a full GORE-TEX liner for those who require a waterproof shoe to seal out water and snow.

The Sylan

The Sylan ($200) is a mountain-running shoe designed for comfort and stability on tough trails, offering reliable grip and support on varied surfaces. Arc’teryx says that its rocker geometry enhances forward motion, while the 6mm lugs and Vibram® Megagrip outsole with LITEBASE technology ensure lightweight, all-conditions traction. It’s aimed at challenging terrain with a durable, flexible upper, supportive fit, and a debris-blocking knit collar. The Sylan GTX ($230) adds a GORE-TEX liner for wet trail protection.

“The Sylan has been able to solve many problems. It is a shoe that encourages speed and propulsion while being responsive on uphills, flats, and downhills. My heel is nicely locked in place, I get much less toe bash than other shoes, the tread keeps me stable, and the small cuff contributes to both speed and comfort – less stopping to remove debris. It stands out from the competition as it was completely designed for its purpose: running in the mountains. This is the closest any shoe has come to not holding me back. This shoe has been with me on podiums, FKTs, and countless training runs.” Emma Cook-Clarke, Arc’teryx Mountain Running Athlete

The Kragg

The Kragg ($160) is designed for rapid approaches, belay duties, and post-climb comfort, it features a breathable, stretchy Spacermesh upper for a snug fit, TPU and Vibram rubber for toe and wear-area protection, and a Vibram Megagrip outsole for versatile grip. It also features a collapsible heel for slipper-like wear, and a Contoura foam insole for recovery comfort. The Kragg seems to blend support, capability and convenience with a modern look for less technical activities.
